Years ago, I began this little one inch eye portrait on an ivory heart cabochon, thinking it would not take long to complete. But I got stuck when I laid down the wrong tint of color for the shadows around the eye, and I just couldn’t put my finger on exactly what it was. I needed to step away for awhile to get my perspective back. Well… four years later, I found it! But I had to scrape off all of the paint, except for the eye itself, and start over. Here is a slide show of the progression of repainting it. The first four photos are reference photos of Alisa at ages two and three years old. I cropped them to the same shape as the cabochon to help with accuracy. By the way, I’m very pleased with the outcome!
