If you were around back in the early 1900’s and visited Luna Park, Pittsburgh, this is what you would have seen at the Live Infant Incubator Exhibit for a 5¢ ticket. These exhibits were popular all over the United States, including the World’s Fair. they raised awareness and funds for neonatal research, and saved thousands of tiny prematurely-born lives.
This painting won First Place at the Heinz History Museum Exhibit with the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators’ Art of Facts; Stories of Unknown Pittsburgh, July 2017 – March 2018. It is also featured in Brian Butko’s book, Luna Park; The Original Lost Kennywood.
